PRODUCTION OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE ALUMINA FILAMENT

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled filament having excellent spinnability and heat resistance, by subjecting a spinning stock solution consisting of an alumina inorganic compound, a boron and a polyvinyl alcohol to dry spinning under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:(A) An alumina inorganic compound is blended with (B) a boron compound and (C) polyvinyl alcohol in the blending ratio of the component A and the component C of 95/5-70/30 and 0.5-5.0% calculated as boron oxide of component B based on the component A and adjusted to 200-1,500 viscosity at 20 deg.C to give a spinning stock solution. Then the spinning stock solution is subjected to dry spinning by a spinning device set to 20-80 deg.C nozzle part temperature and 30-60% relative humidity of a winding part under a spinning condition of <=120 spinning draft and 5-15% water content of wound yarn and further calcined to give the aimed filament.
