An automatic test apparatus adaptable to various test environments and a method thereof are provided to reduce hardware/OS dependence and to perform the test through a platform which is not concerned with environment so that test case development, test environment construction and a test are performed independently. A storage unit(21) stores a test file and a plurality of file conversion programs. The file conversion program converts the test file into a file format executable to a target device(12). UI(User Interface)(22) manages various kinds of information stored in the storage unit, and is offered to a user to assign a specified test file and a file conversion program and to command the file conversion. A connection unit(24) is provided to communicate with the target device by using digital data. A file conversion unit(23) converts the test file so as to be executed in the targets device through the file conversion program, and outputs the converted file through the connection unit.
