WIDE ANGLE DIFFUSER AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY EMPLOYING THE SAME

A wide angle diffuser and a liquid crystal display adopting the same are provided to diffuse a beam over the entire visual angle by irradiating the light collimated from a backlight unit, to a liquid crystal panel and then diffusing the light passing through the liquid crystal panel. A wide angle diffuser and a liquid crystal display includes a wide angle diffuser(1) composed of a plate-shaped body(11), a plurality of micro lenses(15) disposed on one of a light incident surface(11a) for receiving the light of the plate-shaped body and a light emitting surface(11b), and a plurality of prisms(13) arranged on the other surface of the light incident surface and the light emitting surface. Several kinds of micro lenses with different sizes are used. The micro lenses have a spherical or aspherical surface.
