PURPOSE:To improve the reproducibility of a thin-line part by correcting the density of a low-density part in an original picture, by adjusting the maximum quantization level of a picture signal by using a level setter when quantizing a converted picture signal by an AD converter. CONSTITUTION:Picture signal C based upon the white level is sent to level setter 5, where the extent of the voltage division of signal C is varied according to the closure state of switch SW selected by an operator corresponding to the picture state of an original to supply AD converter 6 with picture signal D adjusted as a result. Converter 6 judges a signal, exceeding maximum quantization level LB, to be black level information and performs quantization with the same value. Thus, the density level of signal C is corrected properly. |
