PURPOSE:To unnecessitate extra equipment such as a meander correcting device and enhance the quality of heat-treated products by heat-treating and cooling the metallic strip while moving it in the horizontal direction in the state of being floated by jets of a gas and water. CONSTITUTION:The metallic strip 4 is moved rightwards in the state of being floated by the atmospheric gas blown off from chambers 2, 3 of a heating furnace 1, and simultaneously the strip 4 is heated to a predetermined temperature with a predetermined temperature gradient. Then, while maintaining the heat-treated strip 4 in the floated condition by water jetted from a lower header 8, the strip 4 is cooled at a predetermined temperature gradient by the combination of said water jet and water jetted from an upper header 15. The strip 4 thus heat treated is moved further rightwards in the built-up water while being maintained in the floated condition by jetting water upwardly from jetting holes 10 to the lower surface of the strip 4. During the rightward movement, the strip 4 is cooled while shielding its upper surface from the atmospheric gas by the curtain of water falling from the upper header 15. The cooled strip 4 is discharged through dewatering rolls 19, 19 and is dried. |
