PURPOSE:To obtain powder of metallic iron or the like which undergoes little deterioration in performance during preservation, is excellent in dispersibility at the time of preparing a paint therefrom and is useful for a recording element and the like by incorporating an aromatic amine-based antioxidant in an organic solvent into which the metallic powder is immersed. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metallic powder consisting of iron is immersed in the organic solvent such as toluene containing about 0.2-5wt% (based on the weight of the metallic powder) of the aromatic amine-based antioxidant such as phenyl-alpha-naphthylamine, and the mixture is stirred. After preserving the mixture for a predetermined period of time, the powder is filtered out and dried in an air flow. The metallic powder thus treated undergoes little deterioration in saturation magnetization when it is preserved for a long period of time. In addition, the powder exhibits excellent dispersibility at the time of preparing a magnetic paint therefrom. |
