This invention provides a direct methanol-type fuel battery system comprising a fuel storage part (3) for storing a solid methanol, provided by solidifying methanol, a fuel battery cell (15), and carrier gas circulation means (100). A carrier gas supply path (12) in communication with carrier gas circulation means (100) and a fuel gas flow path (14) in communication with the fuel battery cell (15) on its fuel electrode side are provided in the fuel storage part (3). A circulation flow path (19) in communication with the carrier gas circulation means (100) is provided in the fuel battery cell (15). Upon the supply of a carrier gas from the carrier gas circulation means (100) into the fuel storage part (3) through the carrier gas supply path (12), the fuel gas is supplied into a fuel electrode followed by return to the carrier gas circulation means (100). The above constitution can provide a direct methanol-type fuel battery system of such a type that methanol is supplied as gas, which battery system utilizes highly safe solid methanol in a fuel cartridge state and, further, in the system, can solve problems of liquid leakage, crossover and the like involved in the use of a liquid fuel.
