Provision is made for driving relatively hard, pref. metal, components, incorporating a hole or depression, in softer, pref. wooden or plastic accommodating pieces, using a pressure-medium- activated device - such as nuts or sockets onto a chair seat. The component (4) being inserted is first centered, by engagement in the hole (8) and held to prevent displacement or tilting. Driving-in then proceeds, with position retained. Components are finally released, and the activating device is returned to its initial position. This can comprise two working parts. One (10) such as a pin fitting the hole and the other (11) round it fitting the component being driven in with time control. This ensures firm driving, without risk of slipping.
