Iron-casting moulds consisting of quartz sand, bentonite and water, also contain a lustrous C-former, to prevent liq. Fe fusion to moulding sand surface. Novelty consists in adding the lustrous C-former as a dust agglomerated with a liq. The agglomerate has particle size 0.5-5mm. Agglomerate quantity added to moulding sand mixt. is pref. 4 wt.%. The agglomerates are easily handled, cause no pollution, do not ignite spontaneously, can be stored indefinitely and can be prepd. in a standard concrete-mixer vehicle. The agglomerates can be prepd. (a) by agglomerating a lustrous C former-contg. dust with a liq., pref. a hydrocarbon-contg. liq. The dust is esp. a finely-ground coal dust contg. at least 28-30 (esp. 30-35)% volatile constituents.
