The composition comprises (all parts and percentages by weight): (a) 5 to 20 parts of a 32-40C dicarboxylic acid (dimer acid); (b) 10 to 20 parts of a polymer of 5-6C olefinic hydrocarbons (polyterpene); (c) 10 to 20 parts of a non-polar aromatic polymer of ring and ball softening point 98 to 115 DEG C; (d) a particulate inorganic filler (such as alumina) of which at least 95% passes through 200 mesh (U.S. Series) screen, the amount of filler being 5 to 70% of composition and less than a critical upper limit at which there is enough resin to bind composition; and, optionally, (e) 2.5 to 8 parts of an alkyl cellulose and 2 to 5 parts of a 10-20C monocarboxylic acid. The composition has short quench time; it is used for potting or encapsulation of workpieces (e.g. jet-engine airfoils) during machining. Heattransferring glass balls or ceramic stones are unnecessary. |
