The instrument lays heavy pipe sections, particularly of concrete, in the ground. It is detachably mounted on the bucket of an excavator or similar machine. It comprises a supporting arm (1) secured at the upper end to the bucket (3) and extending downwards from it, together with a support (2) at the lower end of the arm engaging in the pipe section (17), so as to hold it in a roughly horizontal position. The support can be a straight bar, at right angles to the arm in the working position, and hinging on the arm in a vertical plane.
