Repeat dialling using recall exchange equipment - holds non-obtainable number in register accessible store, with second store accessed for calling further numbers

The repeat dialling facility is for subscribers on a common control telephone exchange. The dialled number is stored e.g. on a floppy-disc and held by an abbreviated dialling code and subsequently directly accessed for re-dialling at the subscriber's request. Those subscribers with access to re-dial facilities has corresponding access to more than one store in the exchange common control register for number storage. The subscriber dials a complete number into a store and it is held there whilst the common control establishes a route through the exchange switch block to the called subscriber. If the called sub. is engaged the subscriber dials an abbreviated code to hold the complete number in that first store pending re-dial. The subscriber then clears down, lifts the receiver again and accesses a second register store for making calls. The subscriber can return to the first store to make repeated dialling attempts on his own initiation. If the first stored number becomes invalid or of no further use whilst stored the subscriber can code dial to render it invalid. If the number in the second store becomes the one he wishes to store that can be code dialled into the pending re-dial status and the first store returned to as the working store for further calls.
