1444198 Epoxidation catalyst RHONEPOULENC SA 13 June 1974 [14 June 1973] 26300/74 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] The catalyst residue remaining after the preparation of propylene oxide from propylene and cyclohexyl hydroperoxide in the presence of n-C 4 H 9 SnCl 3 catalyst is regenerated by treating the residue with aqueous sodium hydroxide, isolating the resulting aqueous phase, washing the remaining organic phase twice with water and combining the three aqueous phases, washing the combined aqueous phases with cyclohexane, mixing the aqueous phases with aqueous hydrochloric acid, cyclohexane and heating under reflux to distill a cyclohexane-water azeotrope and returning the cyclohexane phase of this azeotrope to the distillate to produce a solution of n-C 4 H 9 SnCl 3 in cyclohexane which may be used as a catalyst for further epoxidation. An epoxidation catalyst comprising a solution of a mixture of in cyclohexane is prepared by reacting 1, 2-epoxy-octane with n-C 4 H 9 SnCl 3 . |
