The invention especially relates to the method and equipment for shear deformation of rigid plastic foams as well as to the method and the device for determination of the shear displacement of rigid plastic foams, but is also applicable for determination of shear properties of other porous materials, e.g. balsa wood, metal foams etc. in case the stiffness of the test material is such that the stiffness of the extensometer itself has a small influence on the measurement results. The offered shear deformation equipment consists of 2 U-profile supports (1) with such a wall thickness that insures occurrence of no pealing of the sample (2) from the supports during deformation. In the offered shear deformation method adapters (3) prior to their attaching to the supports are modified in such way that the action line of the external force is directed through the longitudinal axis of the sample, parallel to it, when samples of different thickness are tested. The offered device for determination of shear displacement consists of extensometer (4) with extensions of the measuring legs made in such a way their plane of movement is parallel to the deformation plane ZOX and displacement is being determined on the sample (2).
