<p>The femoro-patellar prosthesis replaces the articular surface of the patella and the lateral support side of the femoral trochlea. It comprises two relatively moving elements. The pallellar element has a convex articulating surface and a planar fixing surface which has a pair of parallel, flanged ribs running along its length. The femoral component has an upper, contoured support rail and a fixing stem. The support piece is frusto-conical with a smooth concave surface over which the patellar element slideS. Both components are cemented into their respective bones.</p> |
