A U-shaped metal contact is crimped on to a substrate (2) by means of a pair of parallel-surface dies (10,11) such that plastic deformation of the bight (4) of the contact takes place whereby after removal from between the dies (10,11) the arms (5,6) of the contact remain inherently biased towards each other with the substrate (2) gripped between them.
