PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining satisfactory cleaning properties over a long period, even when a toner with small grain particles is used in a high-speed full-color machine. SOLUTION: The linear velocity (X) of an electrophotographic photoreceptor lies in the range of 50 to 800 mm/sec, the toner to be used at least comprises a resin and a coloring agent; the weight average particle size is 2 to 6μm; an external additive at least comprising silica is added to the surface of the toner; a cleaning stage is performed with a cleaning blade abutted to a counter direction to the surface of the electrophotographic photoreceptor, the ratio (Sia/Sib), between the content of silica present in powder deposited on the edge of the cleaning blade; and the content of silica existing in the toner before replenishment is allowed to satisfy the relation 0.001X+0.7455≤(Sia/Sib)≤0.0009X+3.2727.
