PURPOSE:To shorten a copying time and to reduce power consumption by making the return velocity of a carriage mounting a density sensor equal to an original carrying velocity and simultaneously detecting the density of a next original in a returning stage. CONSTITUTION:An original density sensor 16 which detects the reflected light of the original is set in the carriage 11 providing a lamp 12 and a mirror 13, etc., and the return velocity of the carriage 11 is equal to the original carrying velocity. The density of a first original is detected by the sensor 16 of the carriage 11 held in a home position. Then scanning is executed to the first original and after completing the scanning the carriage 11 is returned at the original carrying velocity and at the same time the density of a second original is detected. Therefore, the detection of density is executed simultaneously with the exchange of original to shorten the copying time and also the power consumption can be reduced because the carriage 11 is not returned at high speed. |
