PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader enabling a user to view a read image with an apparatus developing a file even if the apparatus is not compatible with a new file format. SOLUTION: A multi-function machine 1 is provided with: a first document file creating section 44 for creating a first document file formed by converting image data obtained by a reading operation of a document reader 4 into a file in a first document file format when an input button 9a is operated; a second document file creating section 45 for creating a second document file formed by converting the image data into a file in a second document file format when an input button 9b is operated; and a composite file creating section 46 for storing the second document file created by the second document file creating section 45 into the first document file F3 created by the first document file creating section 44 so that the document files can be integrated.
