A measuring tool, in particular for measuring the diameter of round timber and the like, consisting of a measuring rail which bears a measurement graduation and is rigidly connected to a measuring limb, and of a slide which can be adjusted on the measuring rail, has a reading mark or reading unit for the measurement graduation and supports a measuring limb which can be adjusted with it, the measuring edges of this measuring limb extending at right angles to the measuring rail. The measuring rail (1) terminates before the imaginary point of intersection of the extension of the measuring edge (12) of the rigid measuring limb (2) with it, and the measuring rail (1) and the slide (3) are connected to the associated measuring limbs (2, 4) via a transition piece (5, 6) which in each case is arcuate or extends with respect to the measuring rail obliquely away from the free end. <IMAGE>
