Method of making immersion thermocouples for use in refining and alloying of metals comprises; (a) housing the non-refractory components of the thermocouple between two halves of an elastic mould; (b) evacuating the mould through an opening situated at the height to which refractory material is required in the thermocouple; (c) introducing the refractory material into the mould by induction pulling and (d) allowing the material to set and harden in the closed mould. The thermocouples can be made, using bimetal hot junctions, with refractory insulation encapsulating the metal, in reproducible manner, providing suitable heat protection.
|
