PURPOSE:To improve the riding comfortability of a train and to prevent unnecessary idling of the train by controlling the brake force controlled by an automatic train control apparatus in response to the rate of excessive speed of the train. CONSTITUTION:A speed pattern generator 2 produces a speed pattern responsive to a signal received at an ATC receiver 1, and an arithmetic unit 3 produces a brake command responsive to the speed pattern and speed information. A signal change detector 5 produces the speed information when the changed signal received is a command to run at a lower speed. A speed error detector 9 produces excessive speed information at the time of changing the signal. A brake force reducing device 10 corrects the brake command produced from the arithmetic unit 3 in accordance with the brake pattern having a deceleration capable of decelerating the train sufficiently lower than a limit speed from the excessive speed up to the end of a section, and applies it to a brake command unit 11.
