The engine rotor is eccentric in the stator. Radial vanes sliding in slots in the rotor have their outer ends on the stator. Fuel and air admitted through a stator port (1) are first compressed and then expanded after ignition in the crescent shaped space between the rotor and stator. The sparking plug (2) is at the smallest part of the space. The vanes have projecting pins (9) guided in grooves (10) in the end faces of the stator. This prevents centrifugal force increasing friction between the vanes and the stator. The vanes also move on rollers in the rotor slots to reduce friction.
