PURPOSE:To widen the control range for the bending action to be applied to the work roll, and to facilitate the operation of the apparatus, by fitting an elastic body to the drum end of the work roll, and by previously applying a load to the drum end of the work roll under a condition that the roll gap of upper and lower work rolls is preset before starting the rolling work. CONSTITUTION:A taper 6 is formed in the drum end of the upper work roll 2; a taper 8 fittable to the taper 6 is formed in the inner surface of as elastic ring 7 which is then fitted into the drum end of the upper work roll 2; and the ring 7 is fixed to the upper work roll 2 by a fixer 9 so as to be immovable in the direction of the roll axis. Before starting the rolling pass, the roll gap of upper and lower work rolls 2, 3 is preset; under this condition, a load is previously applied to the upper and lower work rolls 2, 3 by the effect of reaction against an elastic deformation of the elastic ring 7. |
