In a telecommunications switching system with a switching network (K) and a link finding device (W), when a subscriber station (T1) is switched over in a multi-stage switching network (K) from a register (WE) to a connection line (V2), the intermediate lines (1, 2, 3) seized by a connection between the subscriber station (T1) and the register (WE) are already characterised as free for the link search which serves to through-connect the call between the subscriber station (T1) and the connection line (V2), and are therefore characterised as being available for the connection which is ultimately to be set up. These intermediate lines (1, 2) are selected to have priority over the other free intermediate lines (4-11) during the link search. With a view to temporary simultaneous establishment of two switching network through-connections, on the one hand between the subscriber station (T1) and the register (WE) and on the other hand between the subscriber station (T1) and the connection line (V2) used for the connection, the traffic load of the intermediate lines (1-11) of the switching network (K) is reduced, in particular on the subscriber side of the switching network (K). <IMAGE>
