The cartridge for endless ink ribbon for a typewriter has a storage compartment (63) to which the ink ribbon (61) is fed in loops by means of a drive roller (67) and a pivotable pressing-on roller (25) which cooperates with the latter. The drive roller of the ink-ribbon cartridge can be coupled to a drive element of the typewriter in a positive-locking manner. The cartridge housing has a transverse side wall (83) with a passage aperture (75) for the pressing-on roller (25). The ink ribbon (61) passing through the entry point (85) into the cartridge housing can be passed around a relatively large circumferential area of the drive roller (67) by means of a leaf spring (87) into the drawing-in gap between the drive roller (67) and the pressing-on roller (25) and guided into the storage compartment of the cartridge. The pressing-on roller (25) can be moved into engagement with the drive roller (67) through a cutout (89) in the leaf spring (87). The ink-ribbon cartridge always allows precise guiding of the ink ribbon in the printing area and undisturbed loop formation in the storage compartment (63). The tensioning of the ink ribbon in the printing zone is achieved by the leaf spring (111) which directly pressurises the endless ink ribbon and presses it against the edge (113) of the cartridge. <IMAGE>
