The control switching device uses an oxygen measuring sensor in the engine exhaust manifold. The sensor transmits an electric voltage to the control unit of the fuel injection system in dependence on the composition of the exhaust gas. The injection system comprises an electrically driven fuel pump with an electrically controlled timing valve. The control unit derives an electric signal on the failure of the oxygen measuring centre. In the electric line (4) between the control unit (3) and the timing valve (1) is incorporated a timing relay (5), supplied with voltage from the control unit on the failure of the oxygen measuring sensor (2). Then after a preset time period the relay interrupts the line between the control unit and the timing valve, the relay being reclosed on operation of the oxygen measuring sensor.
