The inductive piston position transducer for an operating cylinder has a transducer ring on the non-magnetisable piston and a transducer on the non-magnetisable cylinder responding to the magnetic field between it and the transducer ring. It is an economically produced arrangement making extensive use of standard cylinder components. The transducer ring (30) has an annular slot (32) in its external surface contg. a sliding guide ring (36) or piston (12) sealing ring sliding on the cylinder inner wall (28). The transducer ring is made of sintered oxide ceramic material and the slider ring of low friction synthetic material. The transducer ring may be divided and its segment stuck into the piston. The same cylinder may be used with and without an inductive transducer by using different rings.
