Heating furnace wall lining - with inorganic fibrous heat-insulator, pref. fused quartz fibres, further coated with silicon carbide

Inner heating-furnace wall sides are lined with an inorganic, fibrous, heat-insulating material, (A), which is further coated with Si carbide. The Si carbide coating is applied, e.g. by spraying, as a mixt. of Si carbide powder, having particle size no higher than 100 mu, and binder to form a layer having thickness 0.1-2 mm. The use of the intermediate (A) -layer prevents spalling and reduces heat-losses, e.g. by 20.5% at 1000 deg.C.
