Mechanism positioning medical test strip in re-emission photometer - uses rotating cam to press strip against window when abutting end stop

The mechanism has a casing (20) with entrance holes through which the test strip (1) is inserted. The inner end of the strip comes to rest against an end-stop, (3). A window (10) is located in the casing above the test area (14) on the strip. A pressure device (9) presses the strip against the inside of the window when the strip's inner end comes to rest. The pressure produced can be adjusted to suit the thicness of the strip. The pressure device consists of a flat head pushed towards the underside of the strip by the projecting part (8) of a pivoted cam (6). The cam has a second projecting part against which the end-stop (3) acts (or is itself the end-stop). The inner end of the strip pushes the end-stop and rotates the cam, which presses the head against the strip and the strip against the window. The cam is spring-loaded so that it is held in its clamping position (it is released from outside the casing).
