Integral coil case for bell transformer - has double flange between windings to accommodate lamination packet shunting stray flux

Shunting laminations are added between prim. and sec. windings to improve the short circuit performance of the transformer by diverting some of the stray flux. These laminations are accommodated in a pocket. The coil case comprises a rectangular tube with a flange at each end. Between these flanges, and dividing the tubular section into two parts, is a third flange for separating the two windings. This flange consists of two plates joined along three sides by walls parallel to the tube axis. These parts form a pocket into which the additional laminations can be inserted. The transformer magnetic yokes pass down two sides of the coil case. The core passes through the central tube in the case. At least one of the flanges may be moulded on mountings for terminals for the coil winding wires.
