<p>PURPOSE:To form a minute pattern and give various displays by forming a silicone resin film having a vertically orienting property on the whole surface of one of substrates, laying a mask layer of a photoresist on the film, and treating the film with plasma to make the orienting property partially different. CONSTITUTION:A film of a thermosetting silicone resin such as polydimethyl- siloxane is formed as a vertically orienting film on the whole surface of an electrode substrate. A photoresist soln. almost protected from decomposition and peeling in plasma treatment is applied to the orienting film, dried, exposed through a prescribed negative, and developed to form a resist image. Using this resist film as a mask the orienting film is treated with plasma to deprive the disclosed film of its orienting property, and the resist film is peeled off. The resulting substrate having vertically and nonvertically orienting parts is set opposite to other substrate having a horizontally orienting layer, and a liq. crystal is held between them to obtain a display device giving various displays.</p> |
