摘要 <p>An internal combustion engine (1) includes a cylinder head (2) and a cylinder block (3), and is provided with a radiator (17). Cooling jackets (4-5) are formed in the head (2) and in the block (3), and separate pumps (10-11) drive cooling fluid through these jackets (4-5). A sensor (25) senses the temperature of the cooling fluid passing out from the block cooling jacket (5), and a controller (26) receives a signal from this sensor (25). A block recirculation conduit system (23) of high flow resistance leads from the block cooling jacket outlet (9) to its intet(7), bypassing the radiator (17). A main recirculation conduit system (14) communicates at its upstream end to the outlets of both the cooling jackets (8-9), and at its downstream portion to the radiator (17). A radiator output conduit system (20) leads from the radiator (17) to the inlets of both the cooling jackets (6.7). A first control valve (15), controlled by the controller (26), controls flow through the radiator (17). A radiator bypass conduit system (21) of high flow resistance leads from a downstream part of the main recirculation conduit system (14) to the inlets of both cooling jackets (6-7), and operation of the first control (15) valve does not cut off flow through this bypass conduit system (21). A second control valve (19) controls flow from the radiator output conduit system (20) and the radiator bypass conduit system (21) to the block cooling jacket inlet (17), and is controlled by the controller (26).</p>
