Title compds. (I; R = C1-9 alkyl, halogen-substituted C1-3 alkoxy, phenyl or phenoxy - substituted C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, acylamino; X = acyl) useful as coupling intermediates for azo disperse dye, were prepd. by reaction of II with acylation agent. Thus, 70 parts 2,4-dinitroanisol was hydrated with 3.6 parts Pd catalyst contg. water (0.5 parts Pd contained in C) and 180 parts N,N-dimethyl formamide at 10-30 kg/cm2, 80-85≦̸C and the catalyst was ! removed by filtration to give 48.3 parts 2,4-diaminoanisol(yield 98.9%).
