The present disclosure relates to a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus using a display unit and a method for controlling the same. The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus may include a magnetic assembly, a transfer table movably installed to enter the inside of the magnetic assembly or withdraw from the inside of the magnetic assembly, and a display unit movably installed to enter the inside of the transfer table or withdraw from the inside of the magnetic assembly. The display unit may be exposed externally due to the movement of the transfer table to thus prevent damage to the display unit.
