The present invention relates to the field of powder metallurgy and especially to a sintered friction material such as a sintered iron-based friction material. The main aim of the invention is to prepare a sintered iron-based friction material, which - owing to the suitable choice of its components - has an improved resistance to wear and tear, a better mechanical strength and a high coefficient of friction, both in a friction situation and in the case of friction coupled with lubrication. The sintered iron-based friction material obtained according to the invention is characterized in that it consists of copper, nickel sulphate, graphite, pyroceramics, asbestos, calcium disilicide, silicon, silicon carbide and iron disilicide, the corresponding proportions being as follows in per cent calculated on the whole composition: 1-5% of copper, 3-6% of nickel sulphate, 4-8% of graphite, 1-3% of a pyroceramic material, 3-10% of calcium disilicide, 0.4-2% of silicon, 0.2-1% of silicon carbide, 0.2-2% of iron disilicide and 0.5-5% of asbestos, the rest of the composition being iron. The present invention is used in friction-based devices in cars, tractors, aeroplanes, road-working machines and other devices whose operation involves both a dry friction situation and liquid lubrication. |
