A photomultiplier anode grid prevents a larger surface for capturing secondary electrons to improve response linearity and comprises a number of metal thin leaf electron collectors (14) arranged in coplanar spaced relationship supported by two metal parallel side struts (15,16) serving as current connectors. The anode grid (11) collects secondary electrons emitted by a rear dynode (12) after multiplication of electrons of an incident beam from an advance dynode (13) on the side of the grid opposite the first dynode. The collectors are equispaced and of a thickness not more than 20% of their spacing. The width of each collector is pref. between 0.5 and 2 times the collector spacing. In a photomultiplier, the grid is located between the dynodes, spaced from the rear dynode by less than 20% of the dynode spacing with the collectors horizontal and the dynodes vertical.
|
