PURPOSE:To perform separation and transfer correctly by having a means of generating a signal indicating the progression state of a copying system and a power source impressing the voltage of the same polarity as that of transfer charging polarity to a conductor, and impressing the source voltage by making timing adjustment with the progression state signal as a reference time. CONSTITUTION:When a transfer electric field of - pole is impressed on transfer paper 4 by a transfer charger 7, the toner of + pole on a photosensitive drum 1 is transferred onto the transfer paper 4. When the leading end of the transfer paper 4 contacts a conductive belt 8, it is attracted and separated to a conductive belt 8; at the same time, a paper leading end detecting sensor detects the moment when the transfer paper 4 comes to the separating position and operates a voltage impressing circuit 9 at the predetermined timing from the start of separation, thereby impressing predetermined - pole voltage to the transfer paper 4.
