The granulate has improved properties, it being easy to classify, crush and mill. The molten slag is poured onto a deflector plate, and flows onto a rotating drum, which flings solidified slag particles through the air onto a storage heap. The pouring and dispersion of the slag is carried out in the total absence of water; and the cooling of the slag is achieved solely by streams of gas (I), the granulate being still hot when it is removed from the storage heap. Gas (I) is pref. cold air carrying solid, dry particles which are natural silica sand; granulated or pelleted blast furnace slag; fine steelworks slag; materials forming pores, e.g. CaCO3; carbonate residues; or dust contg. free carbon. Used as a high-strength granulate for forming antiskid surfaces on roads; for use in concrete or cement mfr.; or as a fertiliser for soils. A small granulate is obtd. which normally only requires sieving, which is easily undertaken when the granulate is still hot.
|
