摘要 PURPOSE:To control an engine to operate the same at a low fuel consumption, by calculating the tolerable maximum value of the internal pressure of a cylinder from the engine speed and the fuel rack position, and controlling the fuel injection timing to render the actual maximum value of the internal pressure of the cylinder equal to the tolerable maximum value. CONSTITUTION:The fuel rack position of an engine is detected at 3, and the engine speed is detected at 4. Further, a tolerable maximum internal pressure P'max is calculated by an arithmetic unit 5. In case that the actual internal pressure P'max of a cylinder 7 thus detected is lower than P'max, fuel injection timing is advanced by an actuator 6. On the other hand, in case that P'max is higher than P'max, it is delayed. Here, since the above control is not so effective when a setting engine speed is lower than a certain level, the above control is stopped and the fuel injection timing is fixed at a standard position. The actuator 6 has delay characteristics for preventing occurrence of hunting. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to lower the fuel consumption of a diesel engine.
