CRANK SHAFT WELDED TOGETHER FROM INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS

The crank-shaft is formed from several pieces each of which has a bearing portion forming part of a main or crank pin journal(3). Some of these pieces are web pieces(1) each of which has a passage(8) for a journal lubricant. Each journal comprises two bearing portions welded together, which are centered by a pin received in adjacent end face sockets. An annular oil duct is defined between the end faces and joined to the passage and adjacent end faces have an annular recess around the oil duct to accommodate weld flash.
