A brake power amplifier has a valve control member (1) which is movable in a reciprocating manner in a bore (3) of a valve housing (4) and can be placed at its front end against an elastic reaction disc (5). At its rear end, the valve control member (1) has a first annular valve seat (10) which is coaxial to a second annular valve seat (11) on the valve housing (4). A valve-closing member can be brought into engagement with the valve seats (10, 11). The axial distance (X) between the front face of the valve control member (1) and a supporting face (9') for the rear face of the reaction disc (5) is set according to a method in which, before the assembly of the reaction disc (5) and the valve-closing member (13) with the valve housing (4), a first cylindrical contact member (16) with an axial extension (17) is arranged close to the front face of the valve control member (1), a second contact member (18) in the form of a cylindrical ultrasonic welding probe with a flat end face (19) is inserted upwards until it bears against the deepest valve seat (10 or 11), and this valve seat is plastically deformed until both valve seats (10, 11) are coplanar.
