The vessel(10) is for the transport of floating cargoes, being in the form of a barge or lighter with a hull enclosing a lower section, a rigid cargo supporting and hull reinforcing section above the lower section(15), and a set of side walls (13, 14) extending from the top (16) to the lower section to form buoyancy chambers. A bilge accomodates the floating cargo, and means are provided for admitting and discharging water and air to and from the buoyancy chambers. One or more doors in the hull allow loading and unloading of the floating cargo and are shut in transit.
