The sliding layer is automatically profiled to produce the min. of friction between the surfaces. It is applied in equipment subjected to static or dynamic pressure. The lubricating agent can be solid, liq., or gaseous and the surfaces may be displaced independently. The lubricating agent can also be used as a load coupler, seal or a means of positioning. The flat elements in sliding contact are coated with a geometrically repeated structure, with mosaic type elevations formed by different materials such as metallic materials in the form of pure, disordered or ordered crystals or compounds. The mosaic patterns can be formed by chemical or electro-chemical processes.
