1. A process for the preparation of a hydroxyl-containing polymer by trans-esterifying an acyloxy-containing polymer with an alcohol in the presence of calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide as trans-esterification catalyst and in the presence or absence of water, wherein the said trans-esterification catalyst is used in an amount of from 0.001 to 0.05% by weight, based on the acyloxy-containing polymer.
