<p>An apparatus for cross-linking by irradiation of rubber, polyolefin or other polymeric insulating coatings on electrical cables or conductors utilises high-energy radiation:at least two radiation sources produce fan-shaped beams in different directions, inclined to the vertical line through the plane along which the generally parallel cables are conducted on a wire handling principle, i.e. reversal of direction. The parallel guide wheels (21,22) for the electric cables (8.9) are of different diameters, so that each length of cable passes from a guide wheel of larger diameter to one of smaller diameter or vice versa. Prior problems of shadowing on irradiation are eliminated.</p> |
