The beer barrels or other containers which are to be cleaned are moved into a cleaning position in the appts. Cleaning fluid is sprayed onto the ends and sides by a nozzle arrangement (3) which has a hooped pipe unit (5) which engages from the top (1) over the container. The nozzle arrangement is connected to a cleaning fluid supply member (4) rotatably mounted in a bearing member (20) and which can be rotated substantially round the container axis (B) in the cleaning position. The container thus remains stationary on its transport system whilst the cleaning pipe rotates round the container so that the problems hitherto arising regarding the accurate positioning of the barrel are no longer apparent.
