MANUFACTURE OF SOLID RUBBER GOLF BALL

PURPOSE:To manufacture a solid rubber golf ball having good impact sound by hardening by grafting a composition composed of polybutadiene, a graftable alpha,beta- ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid, and a metal ion in a mold. CONSTITUTION:A composition, composed of 100wt% polybutadiene A containing at least 40% cis-1,4-polybutadiene, 10-25wt% graftable alpha,beta-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid B, and mono- to tervalent metal ion C in an amount enough to neutralize at least 10% of carboxylic acid, is mixed at a temperature between the melting point of A and the boiling point of B, and the mixed composition is filled in a mold for molding a golf ball and then hardened by grafting by pressing and heating. Thus ionomer crosslinking with metal ion occurs in the golf ball, and a solid rubber golf ball which has good impact sound, good touch sense, excellent durability, and sufficient elasticity can be obtained.
