The sludge which sinks to the bottom of a sewage settling tank is pushed into a lower trough for subsequent removal, with the pushing force provided by a series of spaced continuously travelling transverse pusher plates mounted on an endless cable driven by rollers. Each plate is pivotally attached to the cable by a set of hingedly connected inflexible bars which engage the cable at two points, one ahead of, the other behind, the plate. The system normally uses only one cable and is simpler and lighter than known devices, usually with two chains, esp. for tanks 10 m or more in width. At least the driven roller (10) projects above the liq. surface. At the plate ends are rollers running in channels of L or U shape, depending on the degree of support and control needed. The cable is plastic or high grade steel coated with plastic.
|
