PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retainer for a handrail body that prevents displacement between the handrail body and the retainer, regardless of materials of the handrail body and the retainer.SOLUTION: A rod-form handrail body is sandwiched and retained by a retaining part of a pair of retainers brought close by approaching means. While being retained, a protrusion protruding from the handrail body in a circumferential direction is positioned in a displacement prevention recess formed on the pair of retainers. As a result, movement of the protrusion is prevented by a wall located at an end part in a longitudinal direction of the handrail body on which the displacement prevention recess is formed, when the handrail body and the retainer is about to be displaced relatively in the longitudinal direction of the handrail body. As such, the retainer is not displaced in the longitudinal direction of the handrail body. Also, movement of the protrusion is prevented by a circumferential direction wall located in the circumferential direction of the handrail body, when the handrail body is about to rotate relative to the retainer.
